27 countries of the European Union levy a Value Added Tax (VAT). This sales tax
is included in the retail price. The 20% (10% for some items, see below) tax is
computed from the NET sales price, NOT the gross sales price, as in US sales taxes.
This means VAT tax is added to the net product price in the first place.
To remove this tax for all customers OUTSIDE the European Union, we REMOVE it
from the sales price at check-out. The 20% (or 10%) tax is added for all European
Union (EU) customers. Our posted prices therefore include this tax, which
is then removed for all NON EU customers at check-out. If you were to multiply
the posted product price by 100, divide by 120 to get the NET PRODUCT PRICE ex
20% (or10%) VAT you would find that price is 20% (or 10%) less than the price
(including VAT) posted on our product category pages. Teas, jams & preserves carry
a 10% VAT rate. |
